Searching for a Plant

 

The search feature of the My garden Pal desktop software allows you to search a plant on many different criterion and view the details of the plant.  

 

  1. Click Search for a plants button on the Welcome screen of the My Garden Pal desktop software, as shown in Figure 2-1.

The Quick search for a plant window appears, as shown in Figure 2-5.

  1. Enter the criteria on which you want to search the plant in its respective field. You can enter one or more than one selection criterion.

 

    You can search plants on the basis of their Common name, Genus, Botanic name, family, Growth type, Sun, Growth rate, Perfume, Height, Width, soil, Fruit color, leaf color, Flower color, Foliage, Fruit edible, Draught tolerant, Frost tolerant, Fruit season, Flower season, and Sow season.

 

    Any selections/specifications made on the Quick Search for a plant page will end up in characterising the list of plants that you would like to see.  For example; to display a list of Citrus trees that fruit in January, you would select 'Citrus' in "Family" and tick the 'January' box in "Fruit Season".   The more information you place in this Window the more refined your search results will be.   The less information entered into this Window the larger the result set will be.

 

    In the Quick Search for a plant page, you can:

 

  1. Click Local Search  to search the local database (your garden data) on the specified criteria or click Search the Web to perform a search in the online database, as shown in Figure 3-1.

 

Note:

To perform a search on web, you must be a current web member.  To know more about becoming a current web member, click current web member.

The search results will appear in the Your Garden (browse) window.

 

Not getting your results?

If your result list is minimal or empty, return to the Search Window by pressing the Search icon on the Browse Window and decrease the number of search criteria that you have entered.

 

If your result list is too large, return to the Search Window and input more search criteria to narrow the search results.
