October Newsletter

Hello My Garden Pals

I want to start this newsletter with the same sentence I did two seasons ago, because now the Southern Hemisphere can attest to this so well.  "Autumn is a time to enjoy the fruits of your labor from the hard work you have put in to your garden over the summer months.   So relax and breath in the beauty of your garden."

Writing this from the Southern hemisphere I am now able to sit and enjoy watching the garden rather than being in the garden.   I find this just as important as it is a time of reflection of what worked really well this season and plan for what you can do different next time that may benefit all life forms.  Feel the synergy of how things fit together.

For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere with your summer approaching I recommend that you visit our garden blog and see just what can be achieved in a small amount of time.  Follow the blog .  In spring last year we were turning a horse arena into a veggie garden but we ended up transforming about 3 acres of land into a permaculture property whose prime directive "to take responsibility for our own existence and that or our children.  In other words, we need to get our house and garden in order, so that they feed and shelter us"

One thing I would recommend to all MGP member is to get away from using store bought products on your garden.  There really isn't any need when you know how and you will save a lot of money too.  Our garden this year was grown on horse manure and worm castings.  A worm farm is great not only to provide nutrients to your garden but also if you follow this video you can use it as a natural pesticide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG_i6zCdKMw.  If you want to start you worm farm today read this article http://www.mygardenpal.com.au/phpBB2/upload/WorkShop%203%20-%20Worm%20Farms.pdf
