Hello to the My Garden Pal community! Summer has nearly slipped away from us again (southern hemisphere) so I hope you have all remembered to order your bulbs to get ready for Autumn.  In the North prepare to be busy planning and planting!. This is our first news letter for 2008 and we are looking forward to our members getting to know each other and sharing their knowledge through our Forum and encyclopedia.  Hope that you will tell all your friends and family about My Garden Pal and ask them to become members too.

Did you know that you can show everyone in the My Garden Pal community your garden?  Maybe you have a fabulous red rose that you have grown yourself or an extraordinary pumpkin patch that you would like to show the world. Show all how you did it!  Do you know any home made organic fertilizer recipes?  We want to know what you can do! So go to our Forum, upload your plants (and photos if you wish) and tell us all about your garden.  You will discover a wealth of information too.

FAQ Tips for members:

What is a Forum?

A Forum can be described as an online discussion or message board.  You can start topics online for all My Garden Pal members to see and reply to.  Replies to your discussions can be shown to all users or just to the author of the discussion.  It’s a great way to use the power of people to enhance your knowledge or share your gardening experiences.  My Garden Pal will notify you via email that you have received a reply to your discussion.

How to start a new discussion

1. Choose Community and Forum from the My Garden Pal Web site menu bar.  Or from your personal My Garden Pal program click the Discussion from the opening screen.

2. click New Topic

3. Type in the Subject of the topic to discuss

4. Type in the message body everything you would like to say.  This can be anything you would like to share with others.  It could be something you have learnt along the way or something you have been told and want to know if others also know about it.

5.Click “Submit” to finalize your forum topic.

 

N.B. You can always delete your post by entering into your topic and then clicking the delete picture.

How to reply to a Topic

1. Click on the title words of the topic to enter into the forum

2. Click “Post Reply”

Upload Your Plant Information -building the encyclopedia

In your, My Garden Pal desktop application…..


1.  Add information about the plant you would like to show the world.

2. Press “Share on the web” found in the Add plant or Edit plant window.

3. Now everyone can view your entry

To delete your plant information from My Garden Pal web site

  1. Log onto MGP web site or press on of the links under ‘community’ on your desktop version.
  2. Select “plant information” from the menu and then “My Shared Plants”
  3. Click “delete” next to the plant your would like to remove

This will keep your plant in your personal library but will delete it from our online library or plant encyclopedia.
